Luke 7:36-50
36 Ἠρώτα δέ τις αὐτὸν τῶν Φαρισαίων ἵνα φάγῃ μετ’ αὐτοῦ- καὶ εἰσελθὼν εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν τοῦ Φαρισαίου ἀνεκλίθη.
36 One of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him: having entered the Pharisee’s house, he sat down reclining.
37 Καὶ ἰδού, γυνὴ ἐν τῇ πόλει, ἥτις ἦν ἁμαρτωλός, ἐπιγνοῦσα ὅτι ἀνάκειται ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ τοῦ Φαρισαίου, κομίσασα ἀλάβαστρον μύρου,
37 And behold, a woman who was a sinner in the city, having heard that he sat [at table] in the Pharisee’s house, having brought an alabaster vessel of fragrant oil,
38 καὶ στᾶσα παρὰ τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ ὀπίσω κλαίουσα, ἤρξατο βρέχειν τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ τοῖς δάκρυσιν, καὶ ταῖς θριξὶν τῆς κεφαλῆς αὐτῆς ἐξέμασσεν, καὶ κατεφίλει τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἤλειφεν τῷ μύρῳ.
38 And having placed herself behind near his feet, weeping, she began to wet his [Jesus’] feet with the tears and with the hair of her head she wiped and kissed his feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil.
39 Ἰδὼν δὲ ὁ Φαρισαῖος ὁ καλέσας αὐτὸν εἴπεν ἐν ἑαυτῷ λέγων, Οὗτος, εἰ ἦν προφήτης, ἐγίνωσκεν ἂν τίς καὶ ποταπὴ ἡ γυνὴ ἥτις ἅπτεται αὐτοῦ, ὅτι ἁμαρτωλός ἐστιν.
39 When he saw it, the Pharisee who had the guest spoke to himself, saying, “This one, if he were a prophet, he would know who this woman is who is touching him and of what kind, [he would know] that she is in error.
40 Καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἴπεν πρὸς αὐτόν, Σίμων, ἔχω σοί τι εἰπεῖν. Ὁ δέ φησιν, Διδάσκαλε, εἰπέ.
40 And Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” Then this one said, “Master, speak.”
41 Δύο χρεωφειλέται ἦσαν δανειστῇ τινί- ὁ εἷς ὤφειλεν δηνάρια πεντακόσια, ὁ δὲ ἕτερος πεντήκοντα.
41 A moneylender had two debtors: one owed 500 denarii, the other 50.
42 Μὴ ἐχόντων δὲ αὐτῶν ἀποδοῦναι, ἀμφοτέροις ἐχαρίσατο. Tίς οὖν αὐτῶν, εἰπέ, πλεῖον αὐτὸν ἀγαπήσει;
42 As these had [nothing] to give back, he showed mercy to both of them. So which of these, he said, would love him more?
43 Ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ Σίμων εἴπεν, Ὑπολαμβάνω ὅτι ᾧ τὸ πλεῖον ἐχαρίσατο. Ὁ δὲ εἴπεν αὐτῷ, Ὀρθῶς ἔκρινας.
43 Then Simon replied and said, “I assume the one to whom he has been more gracious. He then said to him: You have judged well.”
44 Καὶ στραφεὶς πρὸς τὴν γυναῖκα, τῷ Σίμωνι ἔφη, Βλέπεις ταύτην τὴν γυναῖκα; Εἰσῆλθόν σου εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν, ὕδωρ ἐπὶ τοὺς πόδας μου οὐκ ἔδωκας- αὕτη δὲ τοῖς δάκρυσιν ἔβρεξέν μου πόδας, καὶ ταῖς θριξὶν τῆς κεφαλῆς αὐτῆς ἐξέμαξεν.
44 And turning to the woman, he said to Simon, “Look at this woman: I came into your house, water on my feet you did not give; she, on the other hand, wet my feet with tears and wiped with the hair of her head.
45 Φίλημά μοι οὐκ ἔδωκας- αὕτη δέ, ἀφ’ ἧς εἰσῆλθεν, οὐ διέλιπεν καταφιλοῦσά μου τοὺς πόδας.
45 A kiss you didn’t give me; she, on the other hand, ever since she came in, hasn’t stopped kissing my feet.
46 Ἐλαίῳ τὴν κεφαλήν μου οὐκ ἤλειψας- αὕτη δὲ μύρῳ ἤλειψέν μου τοὺς πόδας.
46 You did not anoint my head with oil; she, on the other hand, anointed my feet with perfumed oil.
47 Οὗ χάριν, λέγω σοι, ἀφέωνται αἱ ἁμαρτίαι αὐτῆς αἱ πολλαί, ὅτι ἠγάπησεν πολύ- ᾧ δὲ ὀλίγον ἀφίεται, ὀλίγον ἀγαπᾷ.
47 Thanks to this, I tell you, her many faults are let go, since she loved much: he to whom little is let go, loves little.
48 Εἴπεν δὲ αὐτῇ, Ἀφέωνταί σου αἱ ἁμαρτίαι.
48 He said, then, to this one, “Your faults are let go.”
49 Καὶ ἤρξαντο οἱ συνανακείμενοι λέγειν ἐν ἑαυτοῖς, Tίς οὗτός ἐστιν ὃς καὶ ἁμαρτίας ἀφίησιν;
49 And those who were sitting [reclining at table] began to say within themselves, “Who is this who lets faults go?”
50 Εἴπεν δὲ πρὸς τὴν γυναῖκα, Ἡ πίστις σου σέσωκέν σε- πορεύου εἰς εἰρήνην.
50 Then he said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you: go in peace.”
