Luke 23:32-43 The wrongdoer forgiven on the cross

32 And also two others, malefactors, were led with him to be lifted up [on the cross].

33 When they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified him and the malefactors, one on the right, the other on the left.

34 Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them ( let their trespasses go): for they have not known what they are doing.” Dividing his garments among themselves, they cast lots.

35 The people had stood watching. And also the rulers mocked, saying, “He saved others, let him save himself, if he is the Christ [anointed one] of god, the chosen one.

36 Also the soldiers mocked him, coming up to him, offering him vinegar wine

37 and saying, “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.

38 And there was also an inscription above him, “This is the King of the Jews.”

39 One of the malefactors who were suspended inveighed (ἐβλασφήμει blasphemed) against him, saying, “Are you not the Christ? save yourself and us.”

40 ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ ἕτερος ἐπιτιμῶν αὐτῷ ἔφη- οὐδὲ φοβῇ σὺ τὸν θεόν, ὅτι ἐν τῷ αὐτῷ κρίματι εἶ;
40 Then the other replied, reproaching him, “Do you not fear god, you who are in the same sentence [death sentence]?

41 and while we it is just [that we suffer this sentence], from what we have done we receive what we deserve: this one, on the other hand, has done nothing improper.

42 And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”

43 And he spoke to him, “Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
